I’M BAAAAACK!!

Did you miss me? No? Tough crowd. Anyways, after a lil vacation and a large respiratory infection I am (barely) back in action. Nobody ever let me book 3 trips in 3 weeks EVER again!!!

Unrelated: it’s getting chilly out- if you have a favorite brand of tights please reply to this and sing their praises! Looking for snag resistant and/or fun patterns/designs :)

  • Travel makeup brushes- I’ve hauled these through NOLA → Medellín → NYC, and they’re not the flimsy travel kind. They’re legitimately good. I do my makeup like a slop-tart and happily reuse the foundation brush for blush on the road, and the set shape/size mix just works. I also own five full-size siblings from the line and honestly don’t think there’s a bad brush in the bunch. If you travel or just want a compact kit, this is the set.

  • I know approximately one of you took my rec on this last year but Stavvy Gets Ripped is back for season 3. Sue me, but I still love him. As Selena Gomez says, hotter than the bluest flame.

  • You’ve heard of them before, but I am here to endorse Warby Parker glasses- i’ve had several pairs over the last 10 or so years and they’ve never steered me wrong. Always under $200 and you can do the try at home box for frames or stop in to a store. They also have great customer service which feels kind of rare these days (post-COVID at least).

  • Yes I was an emo child and yes that style of music still has a chokehold on me. Hayley Williams new album, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (spotify | apple music), is a no skipper. If Parachute doesn’t win a grammy I’m rioting!!!

  • Glenn Powell is GQ’s latest cover girl with one of the most bizarre male photoshoots i’ve seen in a long time and honestly- thank God creativity is back. Anything to shake up the bland monotonous shoots that have been going on.

  • I think we can all agree last week was a tough one. Sam Harris’ post gave me some peace in the fact that we need to remember to separate what is going on online vs what is going on around us, and I hope it might help you too.

There is no “party of murder” in this country. And insisting that there is just adds energy to yet another moral panic. Social media amplifies extreme views as though they were representative of most Americans, and many of us are losing our sense of what other people are really like. Many seem completely unaware that their hold on reality is being steadily undermined by what they are seeing online, and that the business models of these platforms, as well as the livelihoods of countless “influencers,” depend on our continuing to gaze, and howl, into the digital abyss.

Get off social media.

Read good books and real journalism.

Find your friends.

And enjoy your life.

Sam Harris

unfortunately at one point circa 2013 this was me

Signing off with a pumpkin spice cold brew,

Kate

P.S. If you enjoyed this, send it to your friend who thinks Glen Powell is a smoke show. If you didn’t, send it to your weird aunt.
