Update from last week: I do have ADHD (shock falls over the crowd). If you're struggling with literally anything, just go talk to a psychiatrist (medicines) or therapist (talking through things). I've tried literally everything for ADHD (8 hours of sleep, 30+ minutes outside daily, weight-lifting 4-5 times a week, limiting sugar, etc) and nothing's cracking the code, so I'll be trying out medicating.

I think a lot of people have opinions about pharmaceuticals being 'a crutch' or not trying enough alternative therapies, but if that's the one thing that gives you relief, there's nothing wrong with it!!!! Sometimes alternative therapies just don't cut it!

Also, in my experience, most people who blindly criticize meds or therapy are the ones who'd probably benefit from them most, but that's a rant for another day.

  • 🚨 Ice cream PSA: Whole Foods is having a half-off all ice cream sale through July 8th (Jeni's, Van Leeuwen, etc.) and I consider this a public service announcement!!!

  • Good Hang: I listened to Dakota Johnson on Amy Poehler's podcast, and while it's definitely on the slower side, I'm a big Dakota Johnson fan, so it made for a good to-and-from-work commute listen. She's literally a master of sitting in silence (could never be me) and her speaking is so... comforting? Anyways, worth a listen if you're stuck in the car.

  • For athletes? For hangovers?: A word on electrolyte powders - if you've seen LMNT all over your Instagram ads wondering 'do I need to drink 3 hefty pinches of salt?', I fell for the ads and bought it. I’m finding out for you. I think it can be good if you let yourself get super dehydrated and sweaty (key word: sweat), but for daily use? The lime flavor is really good, but tbh I can only handle half a packet. For travel and recreational drinking, I think it definitely helps, but jury's out on whether it actually does anything or if I just feel cool drinking it.

  • Easy weeknight meal: the key here is to take a shortcut and buying a rotisserie chicken to use instead of cooking your own 👩‍🍳

  • The girls are fighting: “Imitation is the highest form of flattery,” unless you're Lululemon. Last week it went public that everyone's favorite overpriced leggings store is suing Costco for creating dupes that look too similar to theirs. This is such beta behavior from Lululemon and honestly embarrassing - imagine admitting a competitor nailed your basic look so well you're SUING them. One of those moments where they end up adding fuel to the fire in their efforts to stop it.

  • A book adaptation I hope wont flop: Your favorite ageless queen, Jennifer Aniston, was cast to play former iCarly actress Jennette McCurdy's mom in the series adaptation of her book I'm Glad My Mom Died (which, if you've subscribed for a while, you know I'm a HUGE fan of).

  • Devil Wears Prada 2: Stanley, Meryl, Emily AND Anne are all back for Devil Wears Prada 2 (i hope the grilled-cheese-bitch-ass boyfriend isn't in the sequel). I have high hopes!!

To read:

  • A beautifully written piece on how embarrassment is the cost of success + trying new things: “The One Weird Trick is … you just do the thing anyway. And the world doesn’t turn to ash.”

  • A crash course on Hypnosis- this might be a little too woo-woo for me, but I do find it intriguing. I’ve been down the rabbit hole on this specific hypnotherapist and considered getting her book. Worst case scenario it just doesn’t work, right? No harm?

To peruse- i’m on the hunt for 1 perfect pair of heeled sandals + 1 flat pair and this is as far as i’ve gotten in my browsing:

  • Chunky and fun, but I’m concerned they’re going to make that flip flop sound when I walk (tragic)

  • Slim + girl boss, but potentially too Cowboy Carter

  • Okay my ankle is breaking at the mere idea of wearing these, but they’re so late 90s/early 2000s and bitchy I love them.

    • Similar brown croc pair here

  • Do we think I can get away with a trusty pair of Tevas (but cuter) at my corporate job…?

My dilemma with heeled shoes is always: am I realistically going to wear them, or are they for a made-up-in-my-head version of myself who doesn't mind sore feet and actually goes places that require looking cute?? definitely the latter

Signing off sweating my ass off in Memphis, TN,

Kate
