Rat's Nest Week 39

will she pick up a book for the first time in a year???

Hey Rats!!

Happy to remind you that we are in the HOME STRETCH of winter. We have nearly and barely survived another wintry hell. Clocks spring forward an hour this Sunday morning so plan your Saturday night accordingly to make sure you still get your 8 hours of sleep.

Wishing you abnormally high levels of confidence this week ✨

  • Jam of the week- Labour by Paris Paloma: a feminist rage anthem that got me through my first run in months (I hate cardio, OK!) last week.

  • Wannabe book worm- Full disclosure, this is about the 7th time in my adult life i've said i'm going to be a reader, but I think there is a chance I might mean it now after stumbling upon these (I have not read them yet…..):

  • I am president of the I Hate Washing My Hair Club, so I have VERY high standards when it comes to dry shampoo. Dae’s is my all time favorite by a long shot (fails include Briogio, Maria Nila, Batiste, etc etc because I have a sensitive lil scalp)- it smells pretty fruity and I usually try to stay away from added fragrance, but this actually works and leave no residue. It’s also non-aerosol and travel friendly!!

    • ** there is going to be a Sephora 10-20% off sale (depending on your loyalty status) in about a month, so if you want to try it + don't desperately need it rn, i'll remind you in a month when you can get it on a discount!

  • 💌 Female Athletes Six Times More Likely To Get Injured in the Days Leading Up to Their Period

  • 🪵 I'm not saying any of you drink raw milk, but if you do- please consider giving it up. Look, I like to avoid added chemicals and fragrances and everything wherever possible* but i think raw milk is going a bit too far. there is a reason pasteurization is mainstream.

    • *(a couple of years ago I went on an anti-chemical rampage, to the degree where i wouldn't even SMELL A CANDLE my friend wanted an opinion on, but I am recovered and only semi crunchy-ish now) im so sorry Alex please forgive me

  • 📖 Timothee Chalamet’s acceptance speech from winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role Award at the SAG awards. I really liked it- you should watch it, but if you don’t, you should know that it went viral. Why? Because Timothee was very honest about how hard he’s trying to become “one of the greats,” which contrasts with our culture’s trend in recent years to not take anything serious and act like things are effortless. It looks like the internet thought Timotthe’s take was refreshing.

    • Also reminds me of when US Olympic rugby player Ilohna Maher was interviewed and asked if she had imposter syndrome. She essentially said “no, why would i have that? I worked really hard, i deserve this”. Hell yeah girl. It’s cool to try!

  • The Oscars Opened With a Performance That Was … Actually Amazing?

  • 🎬 Barney is… back? Sometimes i just don't get the vision. Ayo Edebiri has officially announced she will be working on writing (and potentially starring in) a live action Barney movie. Apparently the movie is... not for kids? It's supposed to "lean into millennial angst"? Not sold. Not all old things have to be made new again.

thinking about my mom and her tiktok shop purchases (she's only 52, not old enough to be pulling this shit yet)

Introducing Dear Rat’s Nest: Your Problems, My (Probably Terrible) Advice. Breakups? Horrible boss? Fashion emergency and need the perfect dress? This is your invite to spill your trials and tribulations – hit reply and let it all out. Or, if you're feeling shy, you can be 100% anonymous here. Think 90s call-in radio therapy, or Seventeen magazine letters to the editor (I was never brave enough to write in).
